Johnny Butten not the record holder

Johnny Butten from England now living in the USA claims he is the Guinness records fastest banjo picker per this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU3kaKP9q80&feature=channel_page

I looked up the record on the official Guinness site and the fastest banjo picker record is held by Todd Taylor http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/news/2007/12/071217.aspx

Who is the real fastest banjo picker record holder?

  • That was a very good explaination. I presume your quote

Both Todd and Johnny were one-time record holders for this category, but we no longer monitor it under those guidelines.

means at this time neither are a present GWR holder. Please clarify.

  • Hi guys.

Carlton, I assume you got your information from this link? That article was a look back at records broken during the year 2007. It is true that Todd set the record in January 2007, but then as Johnny Butten says below, Todd's record was broken by Johnny Butten in September 2007. At that time, we reviewed our rules, and decided that we needed to change them. So we rested the previous record.

    Hope that clarifies it!

  • Contrary to your comment Mr.Butten, a basic search of the Guinness data base brings up Todd Taylor as the official fastest banjo picker record holder. Guinness claims the World Record data base has been updated since September 07 and is accurate.

  • Dear Mr Carlton, There is NO current record holder for this record. the record was originally set by Todd Taylor in early 2007 and was then broken by Johnny Butten in sept 07'

Guiness felt the rules needed tightening up so rested the record in late 2008 with Johnny Butten as the last to hold the record and have re set the rules with a new song ( Foggy mountain breakdown instead of duelling banjos)
