On the 31 October 2009 I visited San Diego (USA) to witness Junior (Hellyaachwehay) Quisquis attempt to break the record for the Longest UTV Ramp Jump. The current record was set in November 2008 by Andy Bell (USA) at a very respectful 41 ft 6 in, Junior knew this was a very challenging record attempt, he also knew he would have to look fear straight in the face if he was to achieve his life’s dream of becoming a Guinness World Records™ record holder.

Junior has been racing the Yamaha Rhino UTV’s for many years, he therefore knows how to handle the power they provide over uneven surfaces like this San Diego dirt track, although junior has a large amount of experience, this was the first time he was going to attempt this kind of stunt and didn’t have any practise runs/jumps before his attempt.

Looking at the dirt ramps Junior put his foot down to start his run up, he hit the take off ramp with speed and power knowing that one small miscalculation would end his record attempt, but could also put his own safety in jeopardy, the landing was successful much to the delight of his friends and family who were cheering along amongst the crowds of people who had all come to watch Junior perform this incredible stunt.

Junior’s first jump was successful as he managed to break the record by achieving a total distance of 44ft and 5 inches. However Junior wasn’t finished yet, with the crowds cheering him on and the adrenaline pumping through his veins, he decided to give it a second go attempting to better his new record, and creating a greater distance for others to try and break in the future. On Junior’s second attempt he managed to travel even further an achieved a very impressive 47 ft and 8 inches.

In celebration Junior performed several donuts and wheel spins much to the delight of the on looking crowds, before he headed off to the after party to celebrate his new Guinness World Records achievement.
