The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel House of Cards Guinness World Records™ Attempt

The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel House of Cards Guinness World Records™ Attempt

190,000 Cards in 44 Days Guinness World Records-Breaking Attempt

Bryan Berg IIMacao, Special Administrative Region of the People’s Republic of China (January 26, 2010) –

The Venetian® Macao-Resort-Hotel is proud to announce that Bryan Berg who holds the Guinness World Records record for the world’s largest house of

freestanding playing cards and the Guinness World Records record for the world's tallest house of freestanding playing cards, will launch an attempt to break his own Guinness World Records record for the largest house of freestanding playing cards at The Venetian Macao®.

Berg’s attempt to build a replica of The Venetian® Macao, The Plaza™ Macao and Sands Macao buildings will use more than 190,000 cards and take 44 days to complete. Berg will begin building Tuesday, January 26, 2010 and complete his construction Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at The Venetian Macao®.

Berg’s card structures will recreate intricate details of these icons of the Cotai Strip®, such as the Rialto Bridge, the Campanile Tower, and challenging curved shapes of The Plaza™ Macao and Sands Macao. Overall, the composition will be 10 1/2 meters (35

feet) long, 3 1/2 meters (11 feet) tall, and weigh more than 227 kilograms (500 pounds). The cards Berg will use in this record attempt, if laid end to end, would stretch more than 17 kilometers (10 1/2 miles).

Card stacking requires that the builder use no tape, glue or other foreign substances that would aid the construction of the structure. To prove that Berg complies with these rules, after 10 days of displaying the completed record-setting replica, on Saturday, March 20, 2010, Berg will have to publicly knock it all down.

To celebrate the world record attempt and knocking down of the cards, one lucky Cardstacker Sweepstakes participant who draws the Gold Million Card used in the construction of the structure will instantly win HKD$1,000,000.

Bryan BergThroughout the construction period, The Venetian® Macao and Bryan Berg will offer workshops for children, teaching them how to stack cards, as well as cardstacking contests on Saturdays at 3pm for the public, and 5pm for invited community children's centers.

“I was inspired to stack cards by my card-playing grandfather; maybe I can inspire some visitors at The Venetian Macao to try their hand at building their own structures,” said Berg. “This will be the most ambitious project I have undertaken to date, and there couldn't be a more fitting place to build the world's largest house of cards than at the world's largest resort hotel. Given the location of my attempt, I will work to capture the immense grandeur and beauty of The Venetian, The Plaza and Sands Macao.”

Visitors wishing to catch a glimpse of Berg constructing his record-breaking attempt should visit the open space in front of the ZAİA™ Theater between January 26 and March 20, 2010 at The Venetian® Macao.
