On 12 September 2009, and getting ready for this year’s Halloween season, Guinness World Records™ adjudicator, Carlos Martinez, visited the longest walk-through horror house: the Cutting Edge Haunted House in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. Built in the late 1920's as a meat packing warehouse, Cutting Edge has a total length of 689.17 m (2,261.08 ft) from its entrance to its exit and it takes, on average, 55 minutes for the visitors to cover the distance, taking in all the scary haunted house props, spooky ghosts, frightening decorations, strobe lights, fog and monsters along the way. After taking all the necessary measurements and surviving the adventure of walking through the entire house, the Guinness World Records adjudicator announced, exactly at midnight, that a new world record had been set. Todd James, the owner of the haunted house, accepted the attraction's Guinness World Records certificate and then proceeded to cut the ribbon at the start the zombie celebration party in the house’s cemetery with a chainsaw. The celebrations lasted until dawn.
