  • Most people dressed as superhe

    • Description:

A Hulk-ing emerald-green figure pumped his heavy fists through the late summer mist on 29 August 2009. Each of his ground-pounding steps carried him swiftly toward a band of armored Batmen and a crimson-suited assembly of Spider-men, as he and more than 1,000 others helped CHaD, the Children’s Hospital at Dartmouth in New Hampshire, to establish a new Guinness World Records™ title!

      Hulk has gone Batty

Countless cheering fans excitedly wrapped around Hanover, New Hampshire’s Dartmouth Green to see the superhero spectacle, in what turned out to be a sensational summer blockbuster event.

A legion of 1,016 superheroes charged en masse from their alternate identities as mothers, fathers, siblings, students and volunteers to help CHaD earn a new most people dressed as superheroes Guinness World Records™ achievement.

      CHaD celebrates GWR victory

Guinness World Records adjudicator Danny Girton Jr. was on site to personally witness the grand energy of the group, as many of the record participants later galloped into the CHaD Hero Half Marathon to raise money for the children’s hospital, which according to event sources, helps to offer an extended care system "and advanced clinical services for children throughout all of New Hampshire, Vermont and beyond".

  • New York team break static cyc

    • From: gwr_adj_archive
    • Description:

On 19 January 2008, Guinness World Records™ Adjudicator Marco Frigatti had the pleasure of certifying the record for the longest distance on static cycles covered in 24 hours by a team. The New York Sports Clubs/Cadence Cycling Team – consisting of Tucker Brown, Chad Butts, Holden Comeau, Mikael Hanson, Thomas Wood (all USA) and Stefan Kusurelis (Germany) – performed this record attempt as part of the “Saints and Spinners Event” at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, USA. The final distance covered on the spinning bike was 1,335.5 km (829.84 miles), which means that the team cycled at an average pace of 55.65 km/h (or 34.58 mph)!

      080119_static_cycling_2.jpg

The event, which took place from 7 a.m. on 18 January through to 7 a.m. the next day, was a great success both for the organizers and the team members. Most importantly, it raised over $250,000 (£127,275) for HealthCorps, a non-profit organization founded by Dr Mehmet Oz, the health expert from The Oprah Winfrey Show, who is devoted to fighting obesity among teenagers. On top of this fantastic achievement, the six cyclists also managed one more achievement by challenging each other to break the record for the longest distance covered on a static cycle by an individual in an hour – which they broke three times! Both records were set using a Star Trac NXT spin bike.

Merrill Richmond, Vice-President of Marketing for the New York Sports Clubs, commented: “Our members set personal records every day, but today’s achievement is truly historic.”

  • RECORDS FALL ON DAY ONE AT NBA

    • From: sclaxton
    • Description:

HOW MANY GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS WERE BROKEN??  HOW MANY???  FOUR WORLD RECORDS!!!

During a wonderful sunny afternoon in Phoenix, Arizona, USA at the greatest basketball show on earth - the NBA All-Star Jam Session - history was made with four Guinness World Records!

      NBA ALL-STAR JAM SESSION 2009

We started off a 4pm and I met Jason Lodato my contact at the NBA who took me to Center Court to the NBA Wheelchair All-Star Game.  Those guys are tough and don't let anything stand in their way.  Not only did the home team win the game but at half time one of their players set the record for the Most Consecutive Free Throws with three shots made.  Not a massive number but still pretty challenging nonetheless.

From there it was over to the 2KSports Video Game area where fans were invited to try a set the world record for Most Three-Pointers in One Minute in a Video Game using the newest official NBA 2K9 video game.  First someone made five and I presented them with a certificate but lo and behold it was broken again with seven so again I brought out the certificate.  But then amazingly Arizona's own Chad Heathcoat made 26 Three Pointers, a ridiculous number!  No one else even came close so Chad went home knowing his name wIll be found in the next Guinness World Records book.

NBA JAM SESSION DAY 1 031.jpg

Finally it was the turn of the Harlem Globetrotters who took their places on court and broke two Guinness World Records - the Longest Time to Spin a Basketball on your Nose (5 seconds) and the Longest Time to Spin a Basketball on your Head (6 seconds).  Those boys are funny man, not only damn talented but now, once again, Guinness World Record holders!

What a great day...but what's to come tomorrow??  Who knows, stay tuned and you'll find out!
