THE ALABAMA BUTTERBEAN FESTIVAL LAYS PLANS TO BUILDS ITS WAY INTO THE RECORD BOOKS FOR THE WORLD’S LARGEST POT OF BAKED BEANS
Pinson, AL (August 27, 2010) – An enormous metal pot was constructed by the Alabama Butterbean Festival in an effort to earn the festival a place in the Guinness World Records books. The pot will provide the basis for the planned Guinness World Records attempt for the Largest Pot of Baked Beans during the 2010 Alabama Butterbean Festival on Saturday, September 4th in Pinson, AL.
Planning for the monster pot started in October 2007, and will measure over 7 feet wide and 4 feet tall when complete. The vast metal pot is being constructed by Bradford & Hines Custom Metal Fabrication using stainless steel plates provided by Phoenix Metal, both of which are based in Birmingham, AL.
The pot, which will alone weigh around 1,000 pounds, will have the capacity to hold 1,200 gallons, a key factor to making the record-breaking dreams of the Alabama Butterbean Festival a reality as the current record stands at 832 gallons. In addition to the size, the pot structure must be watertight and suitable for cooking the beans.
“We are incredibly proud of how the local community and businesses have come together to help make this Guinness World Records achievement a reality. We hope to show that by working together every community can achieve its goals no matter how small, or in our case how big, they are,” commented Phil Sims, Chairman for the Alabama Butterbean Festival, on the progress of the pot.
Once finished, the Alabama Butterbean Festival’s next focus will be to gather supplies needed to cook the baked beans that will fill the pot for the Guinness World Records attempt. The Festival will be working with farmers from the California Large Lima Bean Growers Advisory Board to source the beans which will be the recipe’s most vital ingredient. Other local companies, including Food Giant, Evans Meat and RL Schreiber, will provide the additional ingredients needed.

The community of Palmerdale, which resides within the city limits of Pinson, Alabama, was founded as a Subsistence Homestead Project during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal after the 1930’s Depression.
The proceeds from the Alabama Butterbean Festival go toward the restoration of the Palmerdale Homesteads Community Center and the Pinson Education Foundation. The board of directors for the Community Center hopes to renovate the whole building in celebration of the community’s 75th Anniversary this year and to better provide youth and senior activities. Almost one year ago, Guinness World Records crowned the then unknown, 8 ft 1 inch Sultan Kosen, hailing from Mardin, Turkey as the Tallest Living Man. The 27- year -old charmed both the media and fans alike, as he embarked on a world tour celebrating his uniqueness and helping to promote Guinness World Records.
Following the media blitz, a world of opportunities have since opened up for him. Most recently, with the success of TLC’s documentary The World’s Tallest Man: Still Growing, two doctors, both moved by Sultan’s story, have stepped up to help improve the quality of his overall health.
First, University of Virginia M.D. Dr. Eric Sheean, helped perform a Gamma Knife® radio surgery treatment to help treat his pituitary gigantism which is causing his excessive growth (Sultan has since grown to 8 ft 2 inches since last year's measurement). The dental work will be gradual and spread out throughout Sultan’s nine day stay in California. Dr. Johnson is assembling a team of the finest specialists in Orange County, including oral surgeons, periodontists, endodontists, laboratories, EMT and his clinical team for the treatment.
Sultan is thankful for the opportunities to improve his overall wellness.
“I just want to live a regular life, so anything that can help me I’m willing to try. My hopes and optimism have kept me going through some very difficult periods in my life, and it is with the same optimism that I take on my next challenges," Sultan said.

1,651 BOATS BREAK GUINNESS WORLD RECORD DURING KENTUCKY EVENT ON LAKE CUMBERLAND
Lake Cumberland Association Awarded the Guinness World Records Achievement for the Largest Boat Tie-up
Lake Cumberland, KY (August 15) – On Saturday, August 14th, thousands of boats gathered for a lake-wide event hosted by the Lake Cumberland Association (LCA) and broke a Guinness World Record for the Largest Boat Tie-up, making boating history. A total of 1,651 boats participated in the record breaking achievement that beat the previous record of 1,453 that was set on Lake Norman in North Carolina in 2004.
The Lake Cumberland Raft Up 2010 aimed to showcase the 1,255 miles of pristine shoreline to travelers and boat enthusiast from across the region. Each of the Lake Cumberland’s nine marinas offered a full schedule of family friendly festivities to visitors through out the record breaking weekend. The record breaking attempt ‘Raft Up’ was the headlining event of the weekend, which boats of all sizes were eligible to participate in, including row boats and canoes.
“We are extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish today and want to extend a big thanks to all the record participants and visitors that came out for the raft up event. The Lake Cumberland Association's main goal was to bring together family and friends for a fantastic, record-breaking day on a beautiful lake. Everyone had a great time and will be able to look back and remember the day they broke a Guinness World Record. The Lake Cumberland Association is going to organize many more fun events and we plan to break this record again next year," explains JD Hamilton, President of the LCA.
Guidelines for the record category stipulate that all participating boats must be connected together in a single line for at least one minute and have at least one person on board during that minute. The feat was witnessed by an official Guinness World Records Adjudicator, who verified that the strict guidelines of the record category were followed. After determining the record was successfully broken LCA was presented with an official Guinness World Records certificate recognizing the feat.

Avery Dennison donated more than 8,500 pounds of school supplies to an in-need New York City school, shattering the record requirement of 1,102 lbs, 5 oz.
To establish the record, students from Adolph S Ochs School and Academy lined up at about 9 a.m. this morning to stuff a full-size school bus with the donated school supplies as part of the celebration. The feat was witnessed by an official Guinness World Records Adjudicator, who verified that the attempt adhered to the strict guidelines of the record category and presented Avery Dennison with a certificate documenting the new world record.

Agoura Hills, CA (July 23, 2010) – On Thursday July 22, 2010, Major League Eaters Joey Chestnut and Pat Bertoletti tied and set new Guinness World Records (GWR) Achievements for Most Chocolate Bars Eaten in One Minute after each devouring three Mars Bars during a competition celebrating Comic Con and THQ’s upcoming release of Red Faction: Armageddon, set on the red planet. The record-breaking event took place at the Tin Fish Restaurant directly across from Comic Con, and was overseen by Guinness World Records Editor-in-Chief Craig Glenday, who acted as the record officiator.
A total of three Major League Eating (MLE) competitors joined to compete for the Guinness World Records title that resulted in the split victory. Directly following the one minute Guinness World Records record attempt portion of the event, the three competitors reconvened and went head-to-head to see who could eat the most Mars Bars in a five minute competition sanctioned by MLE, the governing body of stomach-centric sport. After eating a total of 38 Mars Bars, Pat Bertoletti was declared the winner of this extended five minute MLE challenge.
For the Guinness World Records portion of the event, the record guidelines of this category stipulated that each Mars Bar must weigh at least 49 grams and must remain wrapped until the start of the one minute timeframe. Drinking of any liquid was not allowed during the record attempt and the competitor’s mouth had to be completely empty after each bar was consumed. After each attempt, Glenday verified that the eaters adhered to the strict guidelines of the record category, and Chestnut and Bertoletti were declared the winners. Both consumption champions were presented with an official Guinness World Records certificate recognizing their achievement in eating.
In addition to this record-breaking event, THQ will be hosting an array of game demos and developer interviews for Red Faction: Armageddon during Comic Con at its official booth, #5145, located in hall H.

Guinness World Records is excited to see that our friends at First News (the UK's national children's newspaper) are launching their own show; First TV. We've had a sneak peek at what they've got in store and we have to say that it looks great. There might even be a few record attempts happening too!
Here's the official low down on the new show:
First TV is set to go live on 16th July after being announced last month by Piers Morgan, a co-founder of First News – the award-winning, and only, national children’s newspaper. The Britain’s Got Talent judge announced that the new magazine-style show for young people will be digitally streamed over the internet. Teenagers are connected to a mobile phone or computer for a staggering seven and a half hours a day. The first show will go online this month followed by a series of specials throughout the summer on 6th August, 20th August and 3rd September.
A fantastic line up of presenters include Charlie McDonnell (YouTube’s biggest blogger in the whole of the UK with 60 million views!), Emma Pollard (who played Lauren in the internet drama KateModern with 2.5m views per week) and roving reporters Nicola and Fran Gleadall – the singing and dancing twins on Your Country Needs You! and The X-Factor.
First TV will be a mixture of news, entertainment, sport, travel, high-profile celebrity interviews, competitions and record breaking attempts – one in each episode. To find out exactly what records were broken involving socks, alphabets and balloons and what happened when First TV’s twins came face to face with Jedward - viewers will have to tune in from mid-July.

After 24 wonderful weeks on tour with Forum Shopping Centers, the GWR Live! Roadshow in Turkey has come to an end. Throughout the tour the Turkish people have shown their skill, determination and passion for record breaking with audiences in excess of 150,000 and a phenomenal 104 new world records set during the GWR Live! Roadshow.
Forum Shopping Centers, which are owned and managed by Multi Corporation, Europe’s largest developer of shopping malls, partnered with Guinness World Records to bring the excitement of live records to people across Turkey. The GWR Live! Roadshow visited Forum Malls in eight Turkish cities: Forum Istanbul; Forum Ankara Outlet; Forum Kapadokya; Forum Çamlık, Denizli; Forum Aydin; Forum Bornova, Izmir; Forum Trabzon and Forum Mersin. At each new venue, the format of the roadshow and its challenges were adapted to reflect the unique attributes of the host city. 
GWR Live! also worked with Forum’s flagship retailers, such as Marks & Spencer and Ikea, to create live record breaking challenges which showcased their brands to the weekly audiences which flocked to watch the action. The dedicated challenges included timed trials such as the most cushions covered and the most meatballs eaten in a minute. A special Valentine’s Day record, the most lip prints collected in 12 hours, was attempted in partnership with Max Factor. With the help of Senem Kuyucuoglu, currently Miss Turkey, Forum Istanbul successfully collected 2302 lip prints from visitors to the mall and set a new world record.
The people of Turkey embraced the record breaking challenge and week after week they set new world records. Whether it was the most t-shirts put on in one minute or the highest number of chair rotations achieved in 30 seconds, audiences showed they had what it takes to become Guinness World Records record breakers.
To launch GWR Live! Roadshow Turkey and to promote the opening of Forum Istanbul, Europe and Turkey’s largest shopping center, we created a momentous occasion as two of our best known record holders Sultan Kosen and He Pingping – the world’s tallest and smallest men – met for the first time. Their meeting generated interest from global media and created a platform to launch Forum Istanbul to audiences worldwide. 
The GWR Live! Roadshow launched on 15th January and was stationed at Forum Istanbul for the next six weeks, providing live record breaking and entertainment every weekend for seven hours a day. These successful events helped Forum Istanbul to welcome 11.6million visitors since its launch. 
From here each new location provided a new experience for the roadshow visitors. At Forum Trabzon a new record was set for the largest box of facial tissues which were presented to a special guest who could make good use of them, Mehmet Ozyurek, the record holder for the world’s longest nose on a living person. In Mersin, a city renowned for its oranges, the roadshow paid homage with records set for the most oranges peeled and eaten in one minute and the most juice extracted from an orange in one minute. 
Additional one-off records were set elsewhere, including Forum Ankara Outlet which unveiled the world’s largest price tag and in Kapadokya, where Guinness World Records confirmed a new record for the world’s largest pot structure. Other Forum locations created unique records, such as Forum Çamlık which created the world’s largest bathrobe and Forum Aydın which played host to 525 Efe folkdancers who set the record for the largest Zeybek dance. 
The roadshow not only captured the attention of the Turkish people, but also the media with events gaining coverage across radio, TV, print and online. The launch in Forum Istanbul gained global coverage which spanned from Fox News in the U.S. to BBC News in the UK, and had a media value in excess of €30m. 
The roadshow itself gained more than an hour and a half dedicated TV coverage, appearing on everything from the Beyaz Show, which is one of Turkey’s most popular and highest rated TV talk shows, to the famous Turkish sitcom One Women & One Manwhich featured stars of the show attempting to set their own Guinness World Records.

GWR's Editor-in-Chief joins the jet-set with record-breaking recording artist James Blunt at 42,000 ft
Talk about living the high life! Here I am, crisscrossing England on a private jet, sipping Champagne, enjoying an exclusive, live, invite-only personal performance by a world class musician... and I'm getting paid to do this? I ask the Titan Airways hostess to pinch me but all I get is a funny look.
So, what record attempt brings me to such heady heights? It is, of course, the highest gig – an attempt by record-breaking recording artist James Blunt to perform a concert to a plane-full of ticketed fans and secure his third Guinness World Record. (Check out the 2007 edition – James makes his first appearance for the sales of his brilliant debut album Back To Bedlam
This record attempt – supported by RSA Insurance/MORE TH>N to celebrate the company's 300th anniversary, and realized by London radio station Heart FM – is taking place on board a modified Boeing 767 that took off from Stansted Airport just after miDday on Tuesday 29 June. After a steep climb, the captain announces to the passengers - a mix of competition winners and RSA employees - that we've reached 42,000 ft, sufficient altitude to beat the existing highest concert record of 41,000 ft, set by Norwegian performer Magnet back in March 2007. Ignoring the choppy turbulence, James Blunt appears from a galley kitchen, straps on his guitar and gives a 20-minute concert that includes his classic "You're Beautiful".
The 100-strong audience seems to fully appreciate the "gig in the sky", singing along despite the rarefied air, the odd bout of vomitting and a flying tray of Champagne that showers a couple of aisles when the aircraft hits a particularly large pocket of air. The concert is nearly halted when things get really choppy, but by now, James has performed for longer than the pre-requisite 15 minutes demanded by the GWR guidelines. In the end, he manages to polish off four songs and we all return safely to Earth to celebrate.
"This is the peak of my career," he jokes as he's awarded his official Guinness World Records certificate, adding that he'll display it with pride in the loo!

The event was supported by the insurance company MORE TH>N to celebrate the 300th anniversary of its parent company, RSA Insurance, formerly Royal Sun Alliance; the logistics were organized by London radio station Heart and Global Radio.

County Wicklow School Children are Guinness World Records™ Breakers as Baltinglass School creates world's largest bead mosaic.
On Friday, 25th June, official adjudicators from Guinness World Records confirmed that the children of Scoil Naomh Iosaf, Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow were Guinness World Records holders after creating the World’s Largest Bead Mosaic.
The World’s Largest Bead Mosaic was created by 64 children over six days, measures 108 square ft and features more than 410,000 beads. The mosaic features eight famous Irish faces including President Mary McAleese, Brian O’Driscoll, Declan Kidney, Shane Lowry, Shane Long, Keith Duffy and Kathryn Thomas.
The World’s Largest Bead Mosaic created by the children, all aged between 10 and 12 years old, beat the current Guinness World Records record which had been held by Cao Zhitao (China) for a mosaic measuring 72 square ft made from 30,000 beads.
The record-breaking attempt has been led by Scoil Naomh Iosaf’s teacher Brian Flood. Commenting on becoming Guinness World Records record breakers, Brian Flood said: “We are over the moon. This is an incredible achievement for the children and they have worked so hard to achieve it. I am incredibly proud that every single one of the children has become a Guinness World Records record breaker.”

24th June 2010 (Baltinglass, Ireland): On Friday 25th June 2010, the children of Scoil Naomh Iosaf, Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow will unveil what they hope will be the World’s Largest Bead Mosaic. If it is confirmed to be the Worlds’ Largest Bead Mosaic then the 64 children will all be named as Guinness World Records record holders.The mosaic features eight famous Irish faces including President Mary McAleese, Brian O’Driscoll, Declan Kidney, Shane Lowry, Shane Long, Keith Duffy and Kathryn Thomas. The finished article will measure 112 square ft, will feature more than 410,400 beads and has taken the 64 dedicated children 6 days to complete.
The children, all aged between 10 and 12 years old, are hoping to break the current Guinness World Records record which is held for a mosaic measuring 72 square ft, featured 30,000 beads and was achieved by Cao Zhitao (China) at an event organized by the Development & Reform Commission of Fuxin Municipal Government in Fuxin City, China on 25 October 2009.
The unveiling of the mosaic will be witnessed by an official Guinness World Records adjudicator at midday on Friday 25th June 2010 who will verify that the strict guidelines of the record category have been followed and, if they are successful, will present the new record holders with their individual certificates.
The record-breaking attempt has been led by Scoil Naomh Iosaf’s teacher Brian Flood. Commenting on the attempt to set a new Guinness World Records record, Brian Flood said: “We are hoping to smash the current world record, our mosaic is significantly bigger and we’ve used thirteen times as many beads. This is all about the children, they decided who the mosaic would feature, they consulted on the design and they have worked their socks off to get it completed. We are incredibly proud of what they have achieved and I hope that they will be an inspiration to other children all around the world.”

All Proceeds From the Guinness World Records® Breaking Event Were Donated by ACTHA to Horse Rescue Charities Across the United States
Austin, TX (June 16, 2010) – The American Competitive Trail Horse Association (ACTHA) made horse riding history with the first ever Guinness World Records achievement for the Largest Trail Riding Competition on Sunday June 13, 2010. A total of 950 riders participated in the record breaking achievement that successfully raised over $69,000 for horse rescue programs across the nation.
On the day of the event riders gathered in 24 states to compete in local trail rides that were organized by ACTHA for the official Guinness World Records attempt, in which riders competed on six-mile trails comprised of safe, fun and natural trail obstacles, that were observed by professional judges. In addition to the riding participants, over 622 volunteers across the nation pitched in to make the days events possible.
“Every volunteer on this monumental effort will have a special place in our hearts and the hearts of the noble horse and equines everywhere,” said Tom Scrima, General Manager of ACTHA, a three-year-old registry and sanctioning body for competitive trail horses and rides. “We asked ourselves, ‘How can we make a bigger impact?’ Our goal is to create enough jobs for the American horses and equines in the next 3 years so that the entire slaughter issue will be a non-issue’”
To qualify for the record, the guidelines stipulated that the competitive trail ride would have a minimum of 250 riders competing in at least 10 venues with a minimum of 25 riders per site. For this attempt, only trail rides sanctioned by ACTHA were counted. Each trail ride had several divisions with one overall winner for each competition. All proceeds from this national event were donated to horse rescue charities and programs across America.
The simultaneous record attempt culminated in a certificate presentation by an official Guinness World Records representative to Lisa Ericson, ACTHA’s local Nevada affiliate, on behalf of all of the volunteers, local ride mangers, ACTHA staff and sponsors that made this event possible. The presentation was held during Clinton Anderson’s Walkabout Tour at the renowned South Point Equestrian and Events Center in Las Vegas, NV.

Abu Dhabi, June 16 2010: Abu Dhabi Traffic & Patrols Department and Saaed Co. has launched the Grand International Artistic Traffic Competition to raise awareness of traffic safety and achieve a new Guinness World Records™ for the Largest Art Competition.Open to all members of the public around the world regardless of age or nationality, the art competition aims to increase traffic safety awareness and create a society free from traffic crashes through a heightened sense of responsibility for road rules and regulations.
Director of Abu Dhabi Traffic & Patrols Department, Hussein Al-Harthei, said: “This is the first art competition in the world of its kind and we hope that the important message of traffic safety will spread as a result of the thousands of participants that will participate.”
The Grand International Artistic Traffic Competition will continue through to the end of 2010 with entries already received on a daily basis. The current record for the Largest Art Competition attracted a total of 141,919 entries from children in India, in an event organised by ISKCON Pune, Pune City, India, on 14 December 2009, which is an achievement that Hussein Al-Harthei feels confident that his organisation will beat.

As part of the third annual ThinkCure! Weekend at Dodger Stadium on Friday, June 11 and Saturday, June 12, Ozzy and his wife Sharon Osbourne, a cancer survivor, will lend their support to ThinkCure! BBC Radio 1Xtra DJs Rampage (Treble T and Mike Anthony) along with special guest DJs this weekend (Saturday 5th June 2010) broke the Guinness World Record for the World's Longest Club Session DJ Relay.
The station broke the record by creating one long continuous DJ club mix, with each tune being mixed in by a different DJ. All tunes had to be perfectly beatmatched, without any musical clangs.
To help with the ambitious mission, BBC Radio 1Xtra assembled a huge line-up of DJs from across the musical spectrum, including award-winners, prominent club DJs and Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra DJs from both past and present.
These included Radio 1Xtra DJs Trevor Nelson, Seani B, Twin B and Target; Radio 1's Vernon Kay and guest DJs including Mark Ronson, Kenny Ken, MJ Cole, Wookie and Crazy Cousins.
There were two attempts - the first was kicked off by BBC Radio 1Xtra's Trevor Nelson along with special guest DJ Mark Ronson at 2pm. The second attempt, which broke the record, was started by In New 1Xtra DJs We Trust DJ, Illmana.
The event took place at the Vibe Bar in London’s East End. The aim was to reach 60 tracks to break the previous world record of 59, which was set on 18th June 2003 at D-Train, Bridge & Tunnel Club, London. After reaching 60, the 1Xtra DJs and guests kept going and eventually finished at a massive 82 tracks!
The record breaking track, Benga & Coki's 'Night', was played live on air at 5.22pm by Rampage’s Treble T during Ace & Vis’ Radio 1Xtra Show. Treble T said: "We've had a great day and, to see all my DJ friends in one place, has been incredible. The fact that we all came together to smash this world record has made me truly proud and really emotional."
The event was the climax of a week long on-air celebration focused on the art of DJ Mix culture on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

New Guinness World Records Achievement Set by Rick DiCecca at Macy’s Flagship Store in Downtown Chicago on Friday, June 4
Chicago, IL (June 4, 2010) – On Friday June 4, 2010, Estée Lauder broke the world record for most lipstick applications in one hour at Macy’s historic State Street location in downtown Chicago. Record-breaker and Estée Lauder Global Makeup Stylist, Rick DiCecca, applied lipstick on 303 participants to successfully break the previous record of 180 applications.
Chicagoans lined up at 12:00 pm on the ground floor of Macy’s on State Street and puckered up for DiCecca to work his magic. The feat was witnessed by an official Guinness World Records Adjudicator, Danny Girton, who verified that the attempt adhered to the strict guidelines of the record category and presented DiCecca with a certificate documenting his new world record.
“I am ecstatic to now hold the very first Guinness World Records achievement for Estée Lauder,” said DiCecca, who travels the world as a brand ambassador and creative consultant. “As a makeup artist, I’m used to working under pressure and this success was definitely a new and different way to challenge my skills.”
Guidelines for the record category stipulate that the lipstick must be applied consistently on the lower and upper lip of each model and the color must be within the lip lines. A different lipstick for each model must be used although any variety and color of lipstick is permitted. DiCecca needed both precision and speed to smash the previous record of 180 applications set by a European makeup artist in Madrid, Spain, on March 3rd of this year.
The record attempt kicked off at approximately 12:00pm for exactly sixty minutes and was followed by the official certificate presentation by the Guinness World Records judge.

Abu Dhabi, 07 June 2010: CAPITAL GATE, owned and developed in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, by ADNEC (Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company), has been certified as the ‘World’s Furthest Leaning Manmade Tower,’ by Guinness World Records.
CAPITAL GATE (www.capitalgate.ae) has been built to lean 18 degrees westwards - more than four times that of the world famous Leaning Tower of Pisa – and, earned the Guinness World Records recognition after rigorous evaluation by the Awards Committee since January 2010, when the exterior of the 160-metre (524.9 ft), 35-storey tower was completed.
Commenting on CAPITAL GATE’s record-breaking achievement, His Excellency Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, ADNEC’s Chairman said: “CAPITAL GATE is a landmark development for Abu Dhabi and with this recognition the tower takes its place among the world’s great buildings. It is a signature building which speaks to the fore-sight of the emirate”.
CAPITAL GATE’s floor plates are stacked vertically up to the 12th storey after which, they are staggered over each other by between 300mm to 1400mm giving rise to the tower’s dramatic lean.
The tower features other innovative construction techniques including the world’s first known use of a ‘pre-cambered’ core, which contains more than 15,000 cubic metres of concrete reinforced with 10,000 tons of steel. The core, deliberately built slightly off centre, has straightened as the building has risen, compressing the concrete and giving it strength, and moving into (vertical) position as the weight of the floors has been added.
“CAPITAL GATE has been a true design-and-build project from the very start. There have been numerous challenges, which I am pleased to say we have surmounted thanks to a structured partnering programme and the hard work and commitment of everyone involved. Both ADNEC and our partners have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to create an iconic structure which is not only distinctive in appearance but also extremely functional,” said His Excellency Ali Saeed Bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, ADNEC’s Managing Director.
When fully complete by the end of this year, CAPITAL GATE will house the 5-star Hyatt Capital Gate hotel as well as approximately 20,000sqm of premium office space.

Besides CAPITAL GATE’S gravity-defying lean and its pre-cambered core, the tower has several other elements that enhance its reputation as one of the world’s most distinctive projects:
· Each room is different as is each pane of façade glass and every interior angle.
· CAPITAL GATE’s shell comprises a super-strong exo-skeleton called the diagrid that carries all the weight of the floors while also providing an unobstructed floor plate precluding the need for pillars or internal beams. Other high-profile buildings that use diagrid technology include New York’s Hearst Tower, the Swiss Re building (‘The Gherkin’) in London and Beijing’s CCTV tower.
· CAPITAL GATE’s double-glazed façade achieves greater energy efficiency with waste air being pre-cooled between the inner and outer façades, before being expelled.
· The tower’s façade glass is of low emissivity and is the first time it has been used in the UAE. It keeps the building’s interior cool and eliminates glare, while maintaining transparency.
· The distinctive stainless steel ‘splash’ that descends from the 19th floor, is a design element and a shading device that eliminates over 30 percent of the sun’s heat before it reaches the building. The splash also twists around the building towards the south to shield the tower as much as possible from direct sunlight.
· CAPITAL GATE’s 19th storey outdoor swimming pool has an unrivalled panoramic view.
· A cantilevered tea lounge overhangs the tower’s exterior, 80m above the ground.
· CAPITAL GATE also has an internal diagrid that has been used to create a tapered, 60m high atrium.
· The tower’s foundation is a dense mesh of reinforced steel above 490 piles, drilled 20 - 30 meters underground.
CAPITAL GATE’s status as one of the world’s most complex engineering projects has been further endorsed by a recent exclusive National Geographic television documentary. The ‘Megastructures’ programme devoted to the project – ‘The Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi’ - has been translated into 44 languages and will be broadcast in 166 countries reaching a potential audience of 200 million viewers. ‘The Leaning Tower of Abu Dhabi’ is due to air in the Middle East next month.
