    • From: gwr_press
    • Description:

Cologne, DE – 24 August – Thousands of coffee drinkers of all ages are expected to descend upon Cologne’s Jugendpark on Sunday, 30 August, to partake in KrügerKränzchen – a Guinness World Records attempt for the world’s largest coffee party.

The record-breaking event kicks off at 12:00 at the Jugendpark in Cologne where an anticipated 10,000 attendees will be greeted with a piece of cake and coffee by hostess Gisela – a.k.a. famous comedian Hape Kerkeling – for a day of star-studded entertainment on the Krüger stage.

Andre Puchta, Head of Krüger Communications said:  “We are all looking forward to this great event and hope to see as many people as possible join us and break the world record. The fantastic program caters to a broad audience of children, families, young adults and seniors – and everyone will be able to enjoy a free cup of coffee and a piece of cake.”

Admission to the event is free and visitors will be able to enjoy their coffee and cake while Gisela chats on stage with Katja Mitchell from the TV show “Zimmer Frei!” and Friede Patt of “Kaffeeklatsch.” Music entertainment will include “The Baseballs” and the great voices of the “Sven West Band.” Cheerleaders from local football club “1. FC Köln” will also show off their skills along famous hypnotist PHARO.

Political VIP guests will visit such as the candidates for the ongoing local chief mayor elections Jürgen Roters (SPD), Peter Kurth (CDU) and Ralph Sterck (FDP).

The current Guinness World Record of 4,585 participants at a coffee party in a single venue was achieved in London in 2008 – a record which organizers of  KrügerKränzchen aim to break by the double.

  • FAREWELL TO X GAMES 15

    • From: sclaxton
    • Description:

All most excellent things come to an end and so it is with a bag full of great memories that we say good bye to X Games for another year...but what a show it was!

      X Games 15 photos 001.jpg

Guinness World Records was there for everyone who chose to step up and take up the challenge of trying to get into the record book and we thank everyone who took part.  From athletes, to all the visitors to the Guinness World Records Skate Park and BMX Park.  To all those who stopped by to win a book or pick up a goodie bag, a big thumbs up to everybody who made it all so memorable.

We cannot leave however before mentioning a young man who chose to come to the booth and have a go at the Guinness World Record for most kicks to one's own head.  Yes, you read correctly.  The record for most kicks to one's own head in one minute is 77 and this young man decided he wanted to see if he could break it.  So right there, in the hot Californian sun, in the middle of X Fest and in front of our Editor Craig Glenday he gave it his best.  To say it was a crowd stopper is to say the least but as the seconds ticked away, the young man furiously kicked himself again and again in the head.  The clock stopped.  He stopped.  The result?  77 kicks made equalling the current Guinness World Record!!  As you can see below the young man was thrilled he had made his way into our book and was forever a part of superlative history - good on you sir!

      X Games 15 001.jpg

Halfway through the day I thought to myself that if there was ever going to be a day that I would ride a skateboard it was going to be at the X Games so I grabbed Craig and proceed to the Skate Park.  After a bit of huffing and puffing as well as some pieces of duct tape (don't ask) we were both suited and booted to hit the...er...concrete.  It seemed to last an eternity but we gave it our best and for 10 minutes Craig and I enjoyed the thrills and spills of riding a skateboard for the very first time.  We were both excellent I have to say, up until the point where my skateboard crashed into Craig's as he was just about to launch himself into an amazing sequence of 360-mctwists-double-ketchup-swifty-fakies.  Oh!  How we are more in awe now of all the young boys and girls who seem to ride these little boards with four wheels with such grace!

      Gnarly Craig & Stuart.jpg

An impromptu Guinness World Record attempt also took place at the Mattel Fingerboard booth in which if you sent a message to a particular number you received an X Games 15 fingerboard.  They wanted to go for the most people simultaneously texting.  After some rallying from the MC, around 37 texters turned up and pressed "Send" all at the same time.  Not a big number but good enough to start the record off...I wonder how many will there be the next time it's attempted?

      X Games 15

And that was that.  The hot sun, the crowds, the amazing level of athletes, the sights and sounds (and smells!) of X Games 15 gradually faded away and we were left to put away our booth in the quiet Los Angeles sunshine.  What a fantastic event it was.  Many thanks not only to all the X Games staff who were there but also GWR's own Laura, Michael, David, Paul, Dan and of course Craig (sadly missing from the photo above) who gave it their all this year and helped to make it one of the most memorable years for Guinness World Records at X Games ever!

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY X GAMES!  HERE'S TO ANOTHER RECORD-BREAKING 15 YEARS!!

More than 200 stores in Canada and U.S. to Soap it Up on June 20
to help those in need and earn worldwide bragging rights

Hamilton, ON – June 17th 2009 – CARSTAR Automotive Canada announced the company’s intention to set a Guinness World Record by washing more than 4,000 cars in eight hours at multiple venues on Saturday, June 20, 2009. The North America-wide attempt will take place at CARSTAR locations across Canada and the United States during the CARSTAR Soaps it Up National Car Wash Day. A Guinness World Records® official will be present to validate the record if achieved.

This year’s Guinness World Record attempt brings an exciting twist to CARSTAR Canada’s sixth annual fundraising event in support of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CCFF) and local charities across Canada.

Over the past six years in Canada, CARSTAR Soaps it Up has gained momentum from coast to coast. This year marks a major milestone as CARSTAR in the U.S. kicks off its own Soaps It Up National Car Wash Day.  Working as a cross-border team, CARSTAR is poised to make it into the history books with this year’s car wash.

“With the support of our customers, employees and partners, CARSTAR Soaps it Up has become the largest and most important fundraising event for the Canadian CARSTAR network and we’re thrilled to turn it up several notches this year and partner with CARSTAR U.S. to make the record books in our first-ever cross-border car wash,” said Sam Mercanti, President and CEO of CARSTAR Automotive Canada. “We’re calling on Canadians to purchase tickets for the June 20th CARSTAR Soaps it Up car wash in their community and show our CARSTAR U.S. neighbours that when we come together, whether to raise money, set a world record or both, Canadians will work hard to get the job done!”

A total of 200 CARSTAR Collision Repair Centres from both countries – 90 in Canada –will participate to help raise money for various charities.  In Canada, half the funds raised will go to the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, while in the United States half will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Participating car wash locations in Canada and the U.S. will then donate the remaining funds raised at their events to local charity groups.

“We’re thrilled to expand our partnership with Make-A-Wish in 2009 with the Soaps It Up National Car Wash and work with our Canadian team to set the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest car wash,” said Dick Cross, Chairman and CEO of CARSTAR Collision Services in the United States. “Our Canadian CARSTAR team has set a great foundation over the past five years and we’re excited to build upon this for an incredible fundraising event to give back to all of the communities where we do business.”

Tickets for CARSTAR Soaps it Up are $5 and are available at participating CARSTAR locations across the country or at www.carstar.ca.

CARSTAR Automotive Canada has been a proud supporter of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation since it was discovered that a granddaughter of a franchisee was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis. In the last nine years, more than $1.6 million has been raised by CARSTAR Collision Repair Centres to help find a cure.

“We are very grateful for the continued and generous support of the CARSTAR network,” said Cathleen Morrison, CEO of the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. “We think that this year’s world record attempt will bring added awareness and funds to the fight against cystic fibrosis, and we wish CARSTAR the best of luck.”

Cystic fibrosis is the most common, fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians. A devastating disease, cystic fibrosis attacks primarily the lungs and the digestive system and requires a daily regime of intensive physical therapy and medications. There are approximately 3,500 people across Canada who have with cystic fibrosis.

Money raised for the Foundation will support important cystic fibrosis research and care. In 2009, the CCFF will fund more than 50 research projects that explore all aspects of the cystic fibrosis puzzle, including research into lung transplantation.
