Atmakuru Ramakrishna
If artist Atmakuru Ramakrishna travels he is sure to grab the window seat. Be it a train or a bus, he goes for the window seat so that he can capture the views in his mind's eye and splay them on the canvas in oils. "But God, what an eye" and a hand: He fills up a medium sized canvas with colours in under 20 minutes flat. A huge collection of his is on display at the State Gallery of Fine Arts. Step in, and you see the whole of the country and every possible scenescape. Rockscapes, seascapes, trees, gorges, valleys, rushing water and every bit of scenic nature done with a childish fascination for the elemental nature. But this is not to say that he deals with simple things. Ramakrishna brings a range of moods, images, colours and styles to his paintings leaving the viewer thinking about the creativity and the output of the artist.
If a few appear to have blotches and splatter of colour thrown roughly on the canvas, a few others give the appearance of delicate and meticulous effort with the brush and the knife. In this show, two of the paintings convey a sense of abstraction as Ramakrishna uses a strip of synthetic mosquito netting to create a vertical divide with blotches of squares flitting in and out of the canvas.
"I am interested in textures that I can lend to the paintings I do, am equally fascinated with recycled material for lending this texture, that is why I have used a strip of mosquito netting. My interest in textures goes back to the time when I did four paintings with thumbprints, but the drawback is that realism is not possible as the strokes have a rough edge," says Ramakrishna.

Thanks to the energy and dedication of hundreds of students, Luoyang City is now the proud owner of two Guinness World Records™ achievements. The students created two peony-themed paintings on 10 April 2008 for the opening ceremony of the 26th Luoyang Peony Festival in Henan Province, China.

Students from the Louyang Normal University collaborated to create the largest painting by numbers. The painting, which included images of variously coloured peonies, measured an astonishing 510.09 m2 (5,490.5 ft2).
At the nearby Luoyang Institute Of Science And Technology, students collaborated to paint the longest painting by numbers. Their creation was 1.25 m (4 ft 1 in) wide, and a stunning 161.73 m (530 ft 7.3 in) long.

With these accomplishments under their belt, maybe Luoyang will use their creativity and passion to create an appropriately sized easel, to display their paintings to the world!
The records were accredited in person by Guinness World Record Adjudicators Danny Girton and Angela Wu.

Van Gogh Village NUENEN -- May 17th 2009
125 years ago, the well-known Dutch painter Vincent van Gogh lived and worked for some years in Nuenen, a little village in the vicinity of Eindhoven in the south of the Netherlands. It was during this period that Vincent produced about 25 % of all his famous works visualizing the village people, landscapes, houses and churches of Nuenen in that era.
As a tribute to the famous painter, the Foundation ‘ Buitenschilderdag Nuenen’ (a group of village citizens aiming for stimulating amateur paint-art) decided to commemorate this fact with a special paint-project. The project encompasses a large number of paintings to be chained to each other in order to create a panorama impression of Vincent van Gogh’s life. Fifty-one enthusiastic amateur painters volunteered to participate in painting on 45 canvases (each with a dimension of 2 x 1 meter) the predefined periods out of the life of Vincent van Gogh. From each of the chosen periods, particular paintings and drawings were selected as a basis to be taken up in the amateur paintings. Individual creative contribution was allowed. The more experienced painters within the group were asked to help and advise the others on form and colours. The paintings were completed within 2 months and the result was impressive. With a total length of about 100 meters, a chain of 45 paintings (interconnected to each other with a 10 cm chain gap) was created as in our opinion “the longest chain of different Van Gogh’s life paintings”. The chain of paintings was displayed for public for the first time on May 17th.
The more than 15.000 visitors of the paintings project also initiated the idea to start a GWR Attempt procedure. The yearly Garden and Flower Fair (24th July – 2nd August) in Nuenen where the 2nd public display will take place, was chosen to be the ideal moment for the attempt.
An unique project for stimulating amateur paint-art and promoting purposes of the village Nuenen .
