Leeds and St. Helens go head to head for the second season running in Rugby League’s Super League Grand Final. Although Leeds won duel last year it is St. Helens who hold the current record for most Super League titles with five from 1996 – 2006.
The NBA pre-season begins this weekend with host of teams involved over the week. The Boston Celtics have the most NBA Championship titles with 16 from 1957 – 1986. The most points scored by an NBA team in a match is 186 by the Detroit Pistons against the Denver Nuggets at Denver in 1983.
Friday sees the start of the Weber Cup, the tenpin bowling competition held between Europe and the USA. To date the record for the most wins of the Weber Cup by a team is five by the United States, Europe will be hoping to win their fourth title this year.
New records were set all over the world last week:
• English schoolboy Reuben Noble-Lazarus became the youngest person to play in English football league aged just 15 yrs 45 days when he appeared as a substitute for Barnsley against Ipswich Town.
• Haile Gebrselassie (Ethiopia) beat his own record for the fastest marathon (male). One year after running 2 hr 4 min 26 secs at the 2007 Berlin Marathon he returned to Germany to clock an incredible 2 hr 3 min 59 secs at this year’s Berlin marathon.
• Valentino Rossi (Italy) has now won five world titles since 2002 after gaining the 2008 championships last Sunday, the most Moto GP Championships.
